The Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC) has pledged to support the Kwara Sports Commission (KWSC) towards the state’s participation at the upcoming National Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta.
The state Coordinator of the commission, Hajia Ajara Ndama, said on Friday in Ilorin that they were sent to give support to the athletes who have been making the state proud by winning laurels.
She explained that the youths have to be supported because they are future leaders and should be supported as they prepare to participate at the National Youth Games (NYG) in Asaba.
Ndama explained that HYPPADEC was established to help communities that are prone to ecological flood menace especially during this rainy season as water dams are about to be released.
The commission, she said, has done a lot to assist farmers in its catchment areas by providing fertiliser and life jackets to people in flood prone areas.
She informed that the commission as a matter of urgency would go out on sensitisation to the people in the flood prone areas.
Ndama confirmed that HYPPDEC is operational in Plateau, Nasarawa, Gombe, Niger, Kogi, Taraba and Kwara states with headquarters in Niger.
The Kwara coordinator hinted that currently, the commission is operating in six local government areas of Kwara; namely Edu, Patigi, Baruuten, Kaiama, Moro and Asa.
She revealed that the commission is about to extend their services to other areas in the state just as it is doing with Kwara Sports Commission now, which is outside its operational schedules.
Responding, the Executive Chairman of the state Sports Commission, Coach Bola Mogaji, appreciated HYPPADEC for extending its assistance to the commission as it prepared for the NYG.
Mogaji however requested the HYPPADEC to provide life jackets for the state’s swimming pool.
