The Governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo-Olu, says the state government has begun massive internet installation in public schools in the State, as they set to connect not less than 100 schools by the end of May 2021.
This was stated by the Governor at the inauguration of the Lagos State Schools Infrastructure Projects and four school buildings on Thursday, May 7, 2021.
He stated that the state government had begun to install fibre optics in state-owned schools to improve learning through high-speed internet connectivity.
He further said that the broadband Internet infrastructure will be completed and inaugurated in the 100 schools chosen for the pilot program.
”Right now, we’re in about 65 schools, but by the end of the month, we’ll be in 100.
”I will go around and commission internet fibre connectivity in the first 100 schools in Lagos state.

”What that will do is not only give you access to the world, but it will also ensure that all of your computer connectivity, the speed required to access the entire world on your palm, is available to you.
”In order for you to compete with students from all over the world. As a result, this fibre will be installed around all schools over time, but the first 100 schools will be commissioned by the end of this month,” he said.
According to Sanwo-Olu, the state is rapidly changing due to globalization and technological advancement, and there is an urgent need to prepare children for the future.
Mr Hakeem Fahm, the Commissioner for Science and Technology, stated during a ministerial briefing on May 4 that the state government was implementing the deployment of 6,000km of Fibre Metro Network connection across the state.
Fahm stated that 3,000 kilometres of Fibre Metro Network connection had been deployed across the state in 2020, with an additional 3,000 kilometres to be deployed in 2021 as part of the comprehensive Smart City Programme to provide a 24-hour driven economy.
”We intend to connect fibre optic cables to all of our public schools and institutions of learning, health centres, and government offices and parastatals,” he said.
