Some Netizens have dragged relationship therapist and coach Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo for explaining why a man should be married at 24 in his recent sermon.
He noted how many people in developed countries don’t live with their parents when they are 18 since they are already exposed to obligations.
He mentioned how many young people in Silicon Valley are already billionaires and working on inventions that are changing the face of the planet.
In Nigeria, a 28-year-old man still lives with his father and works as a delivery boy, he added.
“I don’t know why a man should be above 23 or 24 and not be married. Your mate in animal kingdom has grandchildren, and your mate at 18 in developed countries has left their parents’ house, which exposes them to responsibility really quickly. But in Nigeria, you can be 28 and still be sucking your mother’s b**bs, they are still sending you messages. Your mate in Silicon Valley at 18 or 19 are already billionaires, they’re developing things that are changing the world”, Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo said.
Many people who were outraged and disappointed by the statement came for him on social media.
A user @dorimevibes’s wrote, “24? His opinion though. At 24 a man may still be in school. If not yet in school may still be trying to put his life together. I still believe in the fact that nobody should pressure anybody. Once they are ready to be married they will definitely get married.”
Tosin Juliana wrote, “So people should marry when they are broke and not ready for responsibility just because they are 24 years and above….This is not gospel.”
