Lagos Govt to prosecute Baba: The Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has recommended that Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James (alias Baba Ijesha) face child molestation charges.
A prima facie case has been established against the actor, according to a statement signed by the Attorney-General of Lagos State, Mr Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN), and made available to the Newsmen on Tuesday, May 4.
The declaration by the State DPP is coming after the police forwarded the case file to the department for legal advice on April 30 2021.
“After careful consideration of the facts in the case file, the DPP issued legal advice on the 4th of May, 2021, stating that a prima-facie case had been disclosed against Mr Olanrewaju James and recommending that he be charged under the following provisions of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015:
“Section 135 – Indecent Treatment of a Child – is punishable by seven years in prison; Section 137 – Defilement of a Child – life imprisonment.” Section 261 – Sexual Assault by Penetration – life imprisonment; Section 262 – Attempted Sexual Assault by Penetration – 14 years’ imprisonment; and Section 263 – Sexual Assault – three years’ imprisonment,” the attorney-general stated.

He stated that the state would see to it that Baba Ijesha rights, as enshrined in the 1999 Constitution, were respected.
Onigbanjo stated that the Lagos State Ministry of Justice would not relent in its efforts to ensure that any resident of the state who is sexually abused gets justice.
“It is instructive to note that the Lagos State Ministry of Justice has been consistent in its efforts to protect our society’s most vulnerable members.
“Since its inception in 2014, the Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team has prosecuted over 800 cases of sexual and domestic violence.
“The Attorney-General hereby assures Lagosians and indeed Nigerians that charges will be filed following the DPP’s advice,” he said.
Recall that Baba Ijesha was arrested for alleged sexual abuse of a minor and a foster daughter of his colleague Comedian Princess.
