The Edo State police command has arraigned a 72-year-old man and two others before an Ogbeson Chief Magistrates’ Court in Benin on Friday, April 23, for reportedly stealing 50 tricycles worth N25 million.
Ifeanyi Onukwube, 35, Chima Sunday (AKA Papa), 72, and Bethel Abraham, 27, were the three defendants.
Sgt. Kehinde Iyawe, the Police Prosecutor, stated that the suspects were arraigned on a four-count charge based on conspiracy and stealing.
Iyawe alleged that the defendants conspired to steal tricycles on November 23, 2020, at Ahor Garage in Ahor village, Oregbeni Magisterial District.
He said the defendants stole 50 tricycles worth N25 million from Godec Power Nigeria Ltd.

According to the prosecutor, the offences violated Sections 517, 383(1), and 390 (9) of the defunct Bendel State’s Criminal Code, Laws of 1976, which is now available in Edo.
The accused, on the other hand, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.
Mrs Martha Imafu, the defendants’ lawyer, however, asked the Chief Magistrate to give them bail and assured him that the defendants would not skip court hearing.
The police prosecutor did not object to the bail request.
As a result, Chief Magistrate Mutairu Oare granted the accused N200,000 bail each, with one surety in the same sum.
He stated that the surety must be a responsible individual and must sign an affidavit of means.
Oare also ordered the surety to provide the court with two recent passport images of himself and the defendants.
He went on to say that the court registrar should verify the sureties’ addresses.
The matter was then adjourned by the chief magistrate until May 12 for hearing.
