Derby Male Football Academy (FA) of Abuja, on Wednesday thrashed Zango Football Academy 4-1 in their group H match at the ongoing AMAC Football Coaches Council Unity Cup 2023 in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the competition is being played at the Area 3 football pitch Abuja, began on June 12 and is expected to end on July 5.
Derby FA dominated the game right from the blast of the whistle.
Derby FA, Osaghae Eugene, powered a low shot from outside the penalty box just a minute into the game for their first goal and doubled the tally in the 33rd minute.
Zango FA had a handful of chances but failed to utilize them.
On resumption from the second half, Derby FA, Adetola Qurib, scored the third goal via a free kick.
In the 56th minute, Derby FA, Ebere Eugene, scored the fourth from the edge of the box to put the game out of the reach of Zango FA.
However, Zango FA`s Yusuf Abubakar scored a consolation goal in the 71st minute.
Speaking after the match, Gassan Kawaja, the coach of Derby FA, commended his boys for the wonderful display.
“They are young players and we want them to be a reference for European standards,” he said.
He said the team have played a series of games in different competitions like the Federation Cup and pre-season, adding that it was their first in this competition.
He said the game was part of their project and they are using it to build up new players for next season.
NAN reports that Derby FA will face Fine Trust FC on Sunday while Zango FA will face MGISS FC on Sunday.
About 32 teams are participating in the competition.
