The Kaduna State Police Command has denied a social media report that it detained a Deputy Commissioner of Police for supplying weapons to kidnappers.
ASP Mohammed Jalige, the command’s Public Relations Officer, said in a statement released on Thursday in Kaduna that the individual in the story was a suspect detained in Akwa Ibom two years ago.
“The command wishes to state unequivocally that the photograph in circulation does not belong to any police officer in the Kaduna Command or anywhere else in Nigeria.
“The photograph with the camouflage uniform and the rank of an Assistant Commissioner of Police is that of Kingsley Udoyem, who was arrested and paraded by Akwa-Ibom Police Command on January 2nd, 2019 for the crime of impersonating a police officer.
“As a result, the photograph in circulation has nothing to do with a Deputy Commissioner of Police in Kaduna, he stated.

“The command is taking advantage of this chance to warn members of the public to ignore and discontinue the dissemination of the baseless picture because it contains no iota of truth,” he added.
Jalige also urged the general public, especially social media users, to be constructive and to refrain from disseminating unsubstantiated information.
Many spreading the false news story, he said, is doing so to tarnish the reputation of the police and create a rift between the force and the general public in the community.
