Number 18-ranked Isaac Attah on Monday knocked out number nine-ranked Thomas Otu as the third edition of the DavNotch Senior Open Tennis Championship got underway in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the DavNotch Tennis Championship competition proper began with the round of 32 fixtures, after the qualifiers which took place during the past weekend.
In other matches played, Peter Lawal lived up to his top billing by progressing to the next stage after beating Godgift Timibra 7-5 6-1.
Also, Ikechukwu Iloputa beat Musa Bala 7-6(8), after the latter retired injured.
Micheal Emmanuel equally beat Chima Michael who is four places ahead of him in the Nigeria Tennis Federation (NTF) ranking, after retiring following a 7-5 loss in the first set.
In the women’s category, Toyin Asogba advanced to the round of 16 after beating Esther Olamide 6-3 6-3.
Rebecca Ekpeyong beat Idowu Lagundoye 6-3 6-2 to go into the next stage of the competition.
Also, Bunmi Are booked a spot in the next stage with a 6-4 6-4 win over Oluchi Ozurumba.
Blessing Samuel strolled past Faith Ameh after winning 6-1 6-0, while Stella Udokwelu is now in the round of 16 after her 6-2 6-2 triumph over Toyosi Adeusi.
