Nigeria’s Under 19 male cricket team would travel to India for a tour, ahead of the ICC World Cup Africa Division One qualifiers.
Daniel Gim, coach of the team, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday that the team was hoping to depart the country on May 18.
“We resumed camp in Abuja on Sunday ahead of the Indian tour.
“We have 16 players in camp and we hope that all players can make it to India.
“The aim is to expose the players and prepare them adequately for the U-19 World Cup qualifiers in July in Tanzania.
“After spending about two weeks in India, we will be back home hopefully, to continue with further preparations for the qualifiers,” Gim said.
The team finished second place behind Kenya in the Division two qualifiers in Abuja in 2022, with Sierra Leone taking the third place position out of the six teams that participated.
“This means the trio qualified to the Division one where they face Namibia, Uganda and hosts Tanzania for a sole ticket to the World Cup in Sri Lanka 2024,” he said.
The U-19 Cricket players had previously qualified Nigeria to her first ever World Cup in 2020 in South Africa.
