The Head Coach of Kwara’s squash team, Isiaka Magaji says his team which has won four medals at the ongoing 20th National Sports Festival (NSF) in Benin, would have s have done better if not for the event earlier postponement.
Magaji disclosed this to Newsmen at the National Sports Festival in Benin.
Magaji, whose team is vying for gold in the team’s final game on Saturday, April 10, 2021, said the festival’s several postponements affected their results.
“We could only win a bronze in one of the six squash competitions here at Edo 2020, and that was the mixed doubles.
“However, in the other games, the least we’ve done is win a bronze medal.

“So, we have four medals in squash so far. We have one gold medal, one silver medal, and two bronze medals.
“However, the squad could have done much better if not for the festivals many postponements”
“If the festival had gone on as planned, our result would have been better than this one because our players were in great shape,” Magaji said.
The coach, on the other hand, expressed satisfaction with the team’s success, winning a medal in all but one of the festival’s six events.
“We offer thanks to God for everything because the guys are doing fantastically well.
“We owe God the glory because Kwara won the last two Lagos squash tournaments before this festival,” he said.
Magaji stated that his team will continue to improve after the completion of the state’s continuing construction of eight separate squash courts.
He urged the Kwara State Government, to always remember the health of their athletes in order to avoid constant poaching by other nations.
“Even the token given to them should arrive on time. If we keep doing that, Kwara will have no problems with poaching,” said the coach.
However, Team Kwara will face Delta in the team event, hoping to avenge their defeat in the final of the women’s doubles on Thursday.
“Our players have assured me of victory, and I have faith in our ability,” Magaji said.
