threat: The police on Wednesday in Lagos arraigned a 45-year-old man, Anthony Ogbonna, for allegedly threatening a woman’s life and maliciously damaging her property.
The defendant, whose address was not provided, is standing trial on a three-count charge of malicious damage, threat to life and breach of peace.
He, however, pleaded not guilty before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The prosecutor, ASP Clément Okuoimose, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on Jan. 31, about 11.00 p.m. at No. 1, Kukoyi St., Ikoga Road, Mowo, Badagry.
Okuoimose alleged that the defendant damaged a pedestrian gate worth N55,000, a pumping machine worth N80, 000 and a door worth N110,000.
He said that the property belonged to the complainant, Alhaja Medinat Kareem.
“The defendant threatened to deal with the complainant by all means.
“He also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace.
“The offences contravene the provisions of Sections 350, 56 and 168 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015,” he said.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Fadahunsi Adefioye, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adefioye adjourned the case until April 4 for mention.
An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded a 19-year-old boy, Opeyemi Pelumi, for alleged theft of Bajaj motorcycles.
The prosecutor, Insp Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 9 at the Iron and Steel Rolling Company, Ibadan Road, Ile-Ife.
Osanyintuyi said that the defendant stole one unregistered red Bajaj motorcycle valued N250, 000, property of one Babalola Ayodeji.
He added that the defendant on March 16, at the Ile-Ife Iron and Steel Company, stole one unregistered red Bajaj motorcycle valued N55, 000, property of one Babawale Sunday.
According to him, the offences contravene the Criminal Code, Law of Osun, 2002.
The defendant, who was not legally represented, pleaded guilty to the two-count charge of stealing.
Magistrate Abosede Sarumi ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Custody, Ile-Ife.
Sarumi adjourned the case until March 27, for presentation of fact.
