A Karu Upper Area Court, sitting in Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a 20-year old boy Idris Abba, to six months imprisonment for belonging to a gang of thieves and idle persons.
The convict, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to the charges of belonging to gang of thieves and idle persons.
The judge, Ishaq Hassan, however, gave the convict an option of N13,000 fine and warned him to desist from committing crime.
Earlier, the Prosecution counsel, Olarewaju Osho told the court that on Feb. 16, the convict was seen conducting himself in a suspicious manner.
He said the manner the convict conducted himself could cause undue apprehension to any reasonable person, with intent to commit felony.
Osho added that the convict was also seen in possession of police identity card belonging to one Insp. Iware Obeten and could not give satisfactory account of himself.
He said the offence was contrary to the Penal Code.
Also a Dei-Dei Grade I Area Court in Abuja on Thursday sentenced two tax collectors, Yahuza Mohammed and Yusuf Dahiru to four months imprisonment for causing hurt.
The police charged Mohammed, 26, and Dahiru 23 with criminal force, assault and causing grievous hurt
The judge, Malam Saminu Suleiman, sentenced the convicts, after they pleaded guilty to the charge and begged the Court for leniency.
Sulieman, gave the convicts an option of N20,000 fine each and warned them to desist from committing crimes.
The judge ordered the convicts to pay N15,000 as compensation to the complainant.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mr Olanipekun Babajide told the court that the matter was reported on Feb. 8 29 at Zuba Police Station, Abuja, by the complainant Mr Kashim Musa.
Babajide said that the convicts demanded for payment for a ticket to enter the Dan–Kogi Motor Park in Zuba.
He said that the convict also accused the complainant of wrong parking and while he was trying to explain the convicts attacked him without provocation.
He said that the convicts beat the complainant and he sustained injuries.
The prosecutor state that the convicts also damage the complainant’s car ignition key
Babajide said that the complainant was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
He told the court that during police investigation, the convicts confessed to committing the crime.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 268, and 311 of the Penal Code.
