The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) has installed a four-man executive for the party’s Borno chapter.
Uche Secondus, the PDP National Chairman, officiated at the ceremony in Abuja on Tuesday, March 30, 2021.
Secondus, who was represented by Sen. Suleiman Nazif, the PDP Deputy National Chairman (North), urged PDP members in the state to unite in order to win the governorship election in 2023.
“If we do not win Borno, we will have turmoil in capturing the centre; all of you are aware of the importance of PDP capturing Borno in 2023.
“All organs of the party listen to the voice of Borno PDP leaders; we want the PDP to win power in the state he declared.
Secondus warned that the events of 2019 in the state should not be allowed to repeat themselves, claiming that the PDP had a poor year in the state.
He encouraged the new executive officers to act as a rallying point for the state’s representatives.
“Mr Chairman, you must demonstrate to the NWC that you are able to collaborate with all PDP members in Borno.
“You must do whatever you can to foster the unity of our great party in Borno he stated.
He praised the North-East political leaders for uniting the state’s factions within the party.
He promised that the PDP’s national leadership would provide the state chapter with the requisite resources.
Usman Badairi, speaking on behalf of the new executives, said that with the Supreme Court’s March 12, 2021 ruling reinstating the state’s executives, the PDP was able to retake power in 2023.
In recognising the four executive officers, he praised the judiciary for standing in the way of truth and justice.
He made it clear that the decision was made not for him, but for the sake of democracy’s survival.
He said that fractionalization in the state PDP had come to an end as a result of the judgment and subsequent inauguration of the executives.
“What we have now is Borno PDP and no more factions he said.
He further praised the national reconciliation and strategy committee, headed by Bukola Saraki, for its role in bringing the PDP factions in the state together.
