A 40-year-old man has been arrested by the Jigawa Police Command for allegedly killing his one-and-a-half-year-old son.
ASP Zubairu Aminuddeen, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), announced the arrest to reporters in Dutse on Monday, March 29, 2021.
“On March 19, 2021, a 30-year-old woman named Yanusa Mohammed of Dantanoma quarters in Gumel Local Government Area reported the incident to the Gumel police station.”
According to Aminuddeen, the police were told by the complainant that the perpetrator had taken the child from his mother a month ago under the guise of taking him to his sister in Kano.
“The perpetrator later informed her that the baby died on his way to Kano and was buried,” Mohammed told the cops, demanding an investigation.
According to the PPRO, the suspect was detained by the police for questioning based on the complaint.
However, the child was born out of wedlock, according to the report, and was allegedly killed by the father, who hid the body in a gutter along Maigatari lane.
The PPRO said the police were able to find and retrieve the body, which had been concealed for over three weeks by the perpetrator.
“After a surgical examination, the body was released to the relatives for proper burial.
“The incident is already being investigated, and the perpetrator will be tried in court after that he stated.
