The Osun State Police command says it has arrested ten alleged cultists in a hotel in the Ikire area of the State and also rescued a traveller kidnapped by gunmen on the Ife-Ilesha-Osu highway.
The arrest was made on Monday, March 29, 2021, according to Osun Police Spokesperson Yemisi Opalola, after the officers obtained a tip from the general public.
“After receiving reports from the public that some alleged cult members intend to carry out their sinister activities around the Ikire axis, we launched an investigation.
“Police operatives moved in quickly and arrested ten alleged cult members in a hotel.
“As a result, the command has enjoined the public, as a collaborator in community policing efforts, to provide us with sufficient and valuable information at any time when such illegal gatherings and activities are sighted before the criminals carry out their evil activities.
“Parents and guardians are hereby advised to keep a close watch on their children to ensure that they are law-abiding and that they are not enticed into some activities that could jeopardize their future,” Opalola said.
Similarly, the police spokesperson confirmed that some cult members had been arrested and would be charged soon following a cult rivalry battle in Osogbo on Sunday, March 28 2021 between alleged Eiye and Aiye cult confraternity members.
She went on to state that a major manhunt was underway to ensure that all members of the groups were apprehended.
The police command also announced that the traveller kidnapped by gunmen on Thursday, March 25, 2021, on the Ife-Ilesha-Osu highway in Atakumosa East Local Government Area of Osun had been released.
According to Opalola, the police, in coordination with other security agencies, applied intense pressure on the kidnappers, resulting in the victim’s release about 10 p.m. on Sunday, without any ransom being charged
