Anambra State Governor Willie Obiano has banned the use of tinted lenses in cars and touting as part of measures to reduce insecurity in the state.
Obiano who stated this in a statement made available to Newsmen in Awka the State capital on Monday, March 22, 2021, also ordered security agents to crack down on cultists and their activities.
He further directed security personnel’s to arrest anyone hanging on the road with sticks and molesting innocent citizens and drivers.
He noted that hoodlums have launched targeted attacks on security staff and facilities in the state in the last week.
“Police and Navy personnel on official duty at strategic checkpoints in various parts of the state have been attacked, killed, and their firearms are taken away on several occasions.
“Also, prison and police personnel transporting an inmate to court were attacked and killed in equal numbers.
“The government of Anambra State condemns these attacks on our security personnel and is working to put a stop to them,” the statement said.
“Those who attack us are clearly trying to destabilize the peace and security that has existed in Anambra for the past seven years, and we will not allow it to happen.
“As a result, I have ordered all state security agencies, vigilance services, all task forces, and every structure in the state security infrastructure to rise in defence of our beloved state.
“I hereby raise the state’s security alert, and I pledge to restore order and security as soon as possible”.
He stated that all forms of touting in the state, in whatever guise, will no longer be tolerated, particularly in Onitsha.
Security agencies, according to the Gov., will conduct special operations aimed at neutralizing emerging threats to the state’s people’s safety.
Obiano expressed his condolences to the families of those killed by hoodlums and urged residents of the state to join the government in protecting the state.
“I urge everyone, regardless of political affiliation, to come together and support government and security agencies in the fight against crime.
“While I express my condolences to the security agencies and families of those killed in the recent attacks, I urge all those involved in on-going security efforts to remain vigilant,” he said.
