A series of blasts in Equatorial Guinea’s capital city have killed at least 15 people and wounded over a hundred more.
The health ministry reported the incident, which occurred near a military barracks in Bata’s main city on Sunday.
In a statement, President Teodoro Obiang Nguema said the explosions were triggered by “negligence” in the storage of dynamite at the barracks, which resulted in farmers burning fields surrounding the barrack.
In addition, The health ministry has requested volunteer health workers to go to Bata Regional Hospital and support the victims in a series of tweets. Owing to the large number of injuries, the organization has also requested blood donations.
Meanwhile, videos of the aftermath of the explosions shared on social media showed a chaotic scene of distraught people fleeing as smoke drifted over the city.
