A Karu Grade I Area Court, sitting in Abuja, on Tuesday sentenced a 28-year-old woman, Aisha Adamu to one year imprisonment for stealing 5 bottles of perfumes, worth N35,000 from a supermarket.
The judge, Umar Mayana, however gave the convict an option of N30,000 fine and warned her to desist from crimes.
The convict pleaded guilty to criminal trespass and theft.
Earlier, the Prosecution counsel, Olarewaju Osho told the court that Heric Ibok of “Passion Trust Supermarket”, Karu, Abuja reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on Nov. 9.
According to him, the complainant had alleged that on same date, the convict pretended to be a customer and trespassed into the above mentioned supermarket.
Osho said that in the process, the convict dishonestly stole five perfumes, valued at N35,000 and hid them in her “Hijab”.
He added that during police investigation, all the stolen items were recovered from the convict.
The offence is contrary to and punishable under sections 348 and 288 of the Penal Code.
Woman accuses husband of stripping her naked in public, seeks divorce
A housewife, Rahma Ibrahim on Tuesday dragged her husband, Kabiru Sulaiman, to a Sharia Court sitting at Magajin Gari, Kaduna accusing him of stripping her naked in public.
The complainant who resides at Abuja road, Rigasa area of Kaduna prayed the court to dissolve the marriage, saying she would not stay in a marriage where she was not respected.
“I was coming out of the bathroom when he started insulting me and removed the wrapper I was wearing in the compound.
“He assaulted me and broke my things; I’m tired of the marriage, I want divorce,” she told the court.
On his part, the husband denied the accusation, describing it as untrue.
The judge, Rilwanu Kyaudai, ordered the complainant to present her witnesses at the next sitting of the court on Nov. 30.
