WHAT OCCURED?
Andres Iniesta stated he would like to return to his old team Barcelona after his playing career is over in a different capacity. Barcelona is where he developed into one of the game’s greatest midfielders and served as captain.
Speaking to Jordi Wild on his podcast ‘The Wild Project’, quoted by Get Spanish Football News, Iniesta ruled out returning in a playing capacity explaining: “It’s not that I don’t want to, I’d be delighted to, but the moment has passed. It would be impossible to compete with the people that are there.”
He added: “I would like to return to Barca. I would like to learn and work in a coaching role or as a sporting director. I’d like to train in different areas and then we’ll see.”
After 16 years of tremendous success, Iniesta left Barcelona to sign with Vissel Kobe in Japan. During that time, he won the Champions League four times among many other honors.
After leaving his birthplace at a young age, Iniesta entered La Masia, the youth academy in Barcelona, and made an impression right away. In 2002, he made his first-team debut at the age of 18. During the 2004–05 season, he started participating frequently, and he stayed with the team through 2018. Iniesta is the most decorated Spanish footballer of all time with 35 trophies, including nine La Liga championships and four UEFA Champions League titles. He was a crucial member of the Barcelona teams that captured the two historic trebles in 2009 and 2015. It should be noted that Iniesta is definitely one of the greatest footballers in Barcelona and he would love to continue his reign as such.
