Samklef, a well-known record producer, claims that his early collaboration with Wizkid was a major factor in his success as one of Africa’s best Afrobeats exports.
The Molowo Noni hitmaker said this in an interview with Saturday Beats, noting that he built a foundation that allowed Afrobeats to grow to its current size and brought Wizkid the recognition he is enjoying today.
Samklef addressed the ongoing arguments about who among musicians like Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy is the finest and added that it is necessary for artists to be compared as long as it does not result in violence.
On how he was part of Wizkid’s success, the Producer said; “My contribution is the seed and foundation of what is being celebrated around the world right now, which is Wizkid, one of our biggest exports. He had a great album and sound as a result of a working relationship that we had. I started working with unknown and emerging acts that have become stars today.”
He also emphasized the importance of greater artist collaboration for development.
Samklef said; “Collaboration is the new competitive advantage and if we must grow, we have to come together. Comparison is not bad as long as violence is not introduced. At times, the fans do too much but the comparison makes the artists do better and create entertaining sounds.”
He also expressed his satisfaction with producers’ increased efforts to market their own tunes in the industry.
“Producers before now were not seen, but just heard. Back then, I started by making my own songs, featuring artists, and got the biggest and best video directors to shoot my videos. I am glad that a lot of producers are waking up now to make their own songs so that their voices can be heard,” he said.
